I enjoyed your review of the Benjamin Trail NP Mark II. How much recoil does the pistol have and did you need to grip it more lightly or more tightly to get your 0.33″ shot group? I’ve heard that breakbarrel rifles require a light “artillery hold” to manage the recoil. Is this breakbarrel pistol similar to the breakbarrel rifles in that regard?

      Charles,

The key with all breakbarrels, same with under-levers, pistols and rifles, is you keep the rifle steady throughout the recoil. With the NP if you noticed I placed it back in the same identical position every time I shot it. My grip I would describe as normal, not too hard and not soft. The recoil actually starts before the pellet leaves the barrel. The artillery hold was what the “So-Called” experts thought was the only way you could be accurate with these rifles. They are the same ones that said, “you can’t shoot breakbarrels with bipods!” Well I clearly proved that statement incorrect. Depending on the breakbarrel depends on your hold. The artillery hold is good to start with but change it up. I have some rifles that like lighter holds and many that like a traditional firm or regular grip. Again, the key is whatever hold that you can keep that rifle steady throughout the entire process. The key is experiment what works for you. “Happy Shooting!”
