I put a moderator/silencer on my Walther Parrus .177, which is known to have a nasty transsonic crack with lighter pellets. With this addition, I was able to go from a heavy field pellet to a lighter load, thus gaining some velocity at the range. The addition required re-aiming my scope. The sound is practically inaudible regarding muzzle report. The cycling of the spring piston remains the same, so it is not entirely silent. Groups remained good to excellent. I tried the same model moderator on a Diana 34 in .22. The Diana is a very well-mannered air gun, and the reduction in noise was hardly noticable. Grouping became more difficult. I decided the Diana did not need further supression. I suspect the largest benefit of silencer/moderators will be found in the smaller calibers that are pusing the sound barrier.
